Parents: thank you for allowing me to serve along side of your family. Deuteronomy 6 tells us that Parents are the primary faith formers. It also reveals that as you go through life, there are many teachable moments. Make sure that you take advantage of them. The beginning of Deuteronomy 6 is addressed to the nation of Israel = God’s people and instructs them ‘to come alongside the families’ & that is my goal for this ministry. I want to come along side of you and help to equip, resource, and encourage you to be successful in fulfilling that biblical mandate.
I have been working with Dr. Mark Smith, the Family Discipleship Leader for NC Baptist and we are excited to begin an exciting journey into Family Discipleship with you. I’m thankful to have him as a friend and ministry partner! Now, before you say anything like: “I don’t know what to do” or “I’m just not equipped.” Take a deep breath and relax. I also know that you may be thinking:, “well, I would like to, but we just don’t have time right now.” Let me be brutally honest with you. We make time for what we want to do/ what we deem as a priority. That is not a guilt trip, but a straight forward admonishment to help you understand that you can and should engage in Family Discipleship. But, before you get discouraged and feel overwhelmed with one more thing to do, take a few minutes to read about just how quick, easy, and fun this really is.
Everyone can join this fun journey and easily begin to disciple the children at home! How? Well, Family Discipleship 101 starts off with the “1 Minute Family Devo”. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s all over in one minute, but rather that you can prepare for it in just one minute! Yes, really 60 seconds! CLICK HERE TO ACCESS VIDEOS
*(Don't miss the devotion guides in Comments on each video!)
Now ask yourself, is fulfilling my God given responsibility to disciple my children worth at least one minute per week? Of course it is!! Ok, so how does it work? Each week I will post a 30 sec. video along with a scripture passage and a few questions on our BBCfamjam Facebook group. You will watch the video, pray, read the scripture and then discuss the age appropriate question. It’s that easy!
Dr. Smith and I believe that as you engage your family in discipleship you will love this time together with God and be ready for more! So that’s where Family Discipleship 201 comes in. Faith Talk is more like 10 minutes of prep time. Ask yourself the question, “is the spiritual well being of my children worth a 10 min per week investment on my part?”
I believe that it is! Remember Proverbs 22:6 instructs us to “train up a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he will not depart.” If you’re not sure that you can spare the time, ask someone that has had their child leave the faith. Well, this stage of Family Discipleship is called “Faith Talk” it is all on one page and walks you straight through your time together w/ age appropriate questions to discuss.
This time can really become the highlight of your week. I’m sure that as your family grows spiritually together, you’ll be ready for more! We are working towards Family Discipleship 301. We are excited to have you join the journey.
Dr Smith and I, along with the BBC pastoral team, have been praying for you and your family to grow spiritually stronger, closer together, and bolder in your witness.
